Color-coated coils are products manufactured using substrates such as hot-dip galvanized steel, hot-dip aluminum-zinc alloy steel, electro-galvanized steel, cold-rolled steel, and aluminum-zinc alloy steel. Following surface pretreatment-including chemical degreasing, phosphating, passivation, and chemical conversion treatment-one or more layers of organic coatings are applied to the surface via methods such as roller coating or spray coating, after which the material undergoes baking and curing. These products derive their name from the application of organic coatings in various colors, and they are commonly referred to as "color-coated coils."

The construction sector constitutes the largest consumer market for color-coated coils, accounting for approximately 80% of total consumption. In recent years, the production capacity of China's color-coated coil industry has continued to expand, rising from 51.09 million tons in 2021 to 55.12 million tons in 2024. However, capacity utilization rates remain low-standing at 43.71% in 2024-highlighting a prominent issue of excess capacity within the industry. Furthermore, the industry's production capacity is geographically concentrated, with the East China and North China regions collectively accounting for over 80% of the nation's total capacity and output.
