Product Overview

Steel grating is the walking surface of an industrial plant. Platforms, walkways, stair treads, trench covers, machine guarding - wherever people stand or water has to drain, a bar grating panel is doing the work. It is also a product where the difference between a good panel and a bad one only shows up two years later, when the welds start letting go or the galvanizing starts rusting at the cut edges.

We supply hot-dip galvanized bar grating to BS 4592 and ANSI/NAAMM MBG 531, in serrated or plain bearing bars, as full panels or cut to your panel drawings. Kennen Steel International Co., Ltd. is a China-based steel trading company and a first-tier mill agent - we don't run a factory. We buy direct from source mills in our vetted network, hold them to the specification you agree, and handle the export side end to end. Three decades of steel trading in China is what stands behind every order.

Our grating buyers are fabrication shops, EPC contractors, industrial distributors and steel service centres. Many of them take grating together with their structural sections, cut and bundled to the same panel drawings, so one container carries the whole platform package instead of half of it.

Key Advantages

Direct mill supply, with someone accountable

We buy from the mills rather than from a trading layer on top of them, and we check what they make. Bearing bar size, pitch, cross bar spacing and panel dimensions are confirmed against your drawing before production, not after the container lands.

Serrated or plain, matched to the walkway

Serrated bearing bars give the grip you want on an outdoor stair, a wet process deck or an oily maintenance platform. Plain bars suit trolley traffic, cleanrooms and anywhere a smooth surface matters more than slip resistance. Both are available in the same order.

Cut to panel drawings, not just square panels

Standard panels are the starting point; most projects need openings for pipes, column cut-outs, nosing and edge banding. Send the panel drawing and the grating arrives cut, banded and numbered for erection - the same way we handle structural sections for the same job.

Galvanizing that covers the cut edges

Hot-dip galvanizing is applied after cutting and fabrication, so the coating wraps the cut edges and the welds rather than sitting on top of bare steel. That is the difference between a walkway that lasts and one that rusts from every opening outward.

Documents that clear the gate

An EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate per batch comes as standard, dimensional inspection is carried out against the cited standard, third-party inspection can be arranged on request, and we support destination conformity paperwork where your market requires it, such as KEBS or PVoC.

Bar sizes, pitch, panel dimensions and finish are confirmed against your drawing and destination before the order is placed.

Step-by-Step Manufacturing Process

  1. Raw material - bearing bars are produced from steel strip or flat bar, cross bars from square bar. The mill certificate for the input coil or bar is what the finished panel's certificate traces back to.
  2. Bearing bar preparation - strip is slit and straightened to the specified bar size; serrated bars are notched along the top edge at this stage, which is why the tooth pattern is consistent along the whole bundle.
  3. Cross bar insertion - twisted square cross bars are pressed into the bearing bars at the specified pitch, so the assembly holds its spacing before welding.
  4. Welding - each cross bar is welded to every bearing bar it crosses, on both the top and the underside where the specification calls for it. Weld quality at these joints is what the panel's load capacity depends on.
  5. Cutting and fabrication - panels are cut to size and any openings, cut-outs, banding or nosing are added, per the panel drawing.
  6. Hot-dip galvanizing - the finished, fabricated panel is cleaned, fluxed, dipped and drained. Because galvanizing happens after fabrication, the coating covers cut edges and welds, not just the flat surfaces.
  7. Inspection, bundling and marking - panels are checked dimensionally, bundled and strapped, and each bundle is tagged with its panel mark for erection.

Quality Assurance & Certificates

  • EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate per batch - chemistry and mechanical properties of the input steel
  • Dimensional inspection against the cited standard (BS 4592 / ANSI/NAAMM MBG 531)
  • Bearing bar size, pitch and cross bar spacing checked against the approved drawing
  • Weld inspection at the cross bar joints, with weld shear testing where the project specifies it
  • Galvanized coating check, with coating mass confirmed per order
  • Panel-by-panel check against the marking plan before bundling
  • Third-party inspection available on request (SGS, BV, Intertek)
  • Documentation support for destination conformity schemes (for example KEBS or PVoC)

Core Applications

  • Mezzanine and access platforms in plants and warehouses
  • Walkways, crossover stairs and stair treads
  • Trench, sump and drainage covers
  • Refinery, petrochemical and power station structures
  • Machine guarding, fencing panels and ventilation grilles
  • Steel mill, cement plant and heavy industrial flooring
  • Palm oil, sugar and process plant mill floors and access ways
  • Structural packages shipped alongside beams, channels and angles to the same panel drawings

FAQ

What does 19-W-4 actually mean?

It is an ANSI/NAAMM MBG 531 designation: 19 refers to the bearing bar series and W to the cross bar type, and 4 is the cross bar spacing in inches. It is the most common industrial platform specification in North America. If your drawing uses it, send it over and we will confirm the panel against that designation rather than translating it into something else.

Serrated or plain - which should I order?

Serrated where people walk and the surface can be wet, oily or dusty: outdoor stairs, process decks, maintenance platforms. Plain where trolleys, pallets or clean conditions dominate, or where the grating has to be easy to sweep. A common compromise is serrated on walkways and plain on the platform field.

Can you supply cut-to-size panels rather than whole panels?

Yes, and on most projects that is what we ship. Send the panel drawings with openings, cut-outs and edge details marked, and the grating arrives cut, banded and tagged. We do this alongside structural sections for the same job so the whole package arrives together.

What finish do you recommend?

Hot-dip galvanized for anything outdoors, wet or coastal, which is the majority of orders. Mill finish makes sense when the grating will be painted or powder-coated on site, or when it is going into a dry indoor environment and the budget is tight. Tell us the exposure and we will tell you what we would specify.

Do you provide certificates and inspection?

Yes. Every batch ships with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate. Dimensional inspection is done against the cited standard, third-party inspection (SGS, BV, Intertek) can be arranged on request, and we support destination conformity documentation such as KEBS or PVoC where your market requires it.

Can grating be supplied with clips and fixings?

Yes. Grating clips and saddle clamps matched to the bearing bar can ship with the panels, so site is not chasing fixings after the steel has arrived.

How is the grating packed for shipping?

Bundled and steel-strapped, tagged by panel mark, with timber packing for container shipment. Bundle weights and panel counts are agreed before the order ships so your site lifting plan matches what arrives.

Are you the manufacturer?

No. We are a China-based steel trading company and a first-tier mill agent. We buy direct from a vetted network of source mills, verify the bar size, pitch, welding and coating, and manage the export - fabrication against your drawings, galvanizing, packing, certificates and shipping. You get mill quality with someone accountable for the order.
